Digital nomad visa

We haven't found a digital nomad visa for Austria. Ask Advisor about other ways to stay longer.

What we couldn't confirm

  • ETIAS: official sources (Dutch government page; Swiss SEM FAQ) say ETIAS is not yet in operation and no action is needed; some official pages (EEAS, Belgian embassies, last updated 2025) still say 'last quarter of 2026'. Press reports (non-official) say launch has slipped to 2027; no official new date found.
  • Could not confirm from an official Austrian source whether Austria has a digital nomad or remote-worker visa (official sites could not be fetched and the search budget ran out). nomadVisa is set to null with LOW confidence; re-check migration.gv.at. The commonly cited alternative for self-employed people is the Red-White-Red Card route for self-employed key workers; this was NOT verified.
  • Short-stay extension rules and any Austria-specific bilateral visa-waiver arrangements were not verified (low confidence on extendable/extensionDetail).
  • Austria-specific short-stay facts rely on Schengen-wide official sources from other states plus the national tourist office (non-official).
  • EU row: the only source cited (European Commission visa-policy page) does not itself describe free movement, so confidence is set to low pending an official free-movement source.
