Digital nomad visa
We haven't found a digital nomad visa for Belgium. Ask Advisor about other ways to stay longer.
What we couldn't confirm
- ETIAS: official sources (Dutch government page; Swiss SEM FAQ) say ETIAS is not yet in operation and no action is needed; some official pages (EEAS, Belgian embassies, last updated 2025) still say 'last quarter of 2026'. Press reports (non-official) say launch has slipped to 2027; no official new date found.
- No digital nomad or remote-worker visa found on official Belgian sources.
- Commonly used alternative: the regional professional card for self-employed non-EU nationals plus a D visa (applied for through a Belgian embassy/consulate; assessed by Flanders, Brussels-Capital or Wallonia). Flanders requires net means of at least 110% of the guaranteed average monthly minimum income (GAMMI) and start-up capital of at least EUR 22,838. Wallonia: up to 5 years (first card usually 2-year probation), EUR 140 fee. Sources: be3, be4, be5 (official).
- Short-stay extension rules for visa-exempt travellers in Belgium are only partly confirmed (the Belgian Immigration Office site was blocked by a captcha). The IND (NL) page notes that an extended visa-exempt term in the Benelux is valid for BE/NL/LU only.
- EU free-movement details not checked against a Belgian or EU free-movement page.
- EU row: the only source cited (European Commission visa-policy page) does not itself describe free movement, so confidence is set to low pending an official free-movement source.
