Canadian citizens generally do not need a visa for tourism. They are admitted as B-1/B-2 visitors without a visa; the CBP officer sets the stay at entry, typically up to six months, and may grant less. The authorized stay is the date on the I-94 record if one is issued.
No visa or ESTA. A valid passport (or other WHTI-compliant document) is needed. Since 11 April 2025, visitors aged 14+ who stay 30 days or longer and were not issued an I-94 (common at land crossings) must register with USCIS.B visitors other than Visa Waiver Program entrants may apply to USCIS on Form I-539 before their authorized stay expires; extensions are granted in increments of up to six months (8 CFR 214.1(c), 214.2(b)).

Digital nomad visa

We haven't found a digital nomad visa for United States. Ask Advisor about other ways to stay longer.

What we couldn't confirm

  • The United States has no digital nomad or remote-worker visa. Visitors (VWP/ESTA or B-1/B-2) may not take U.S. employment; no official U.S. route allows extended remote work as a dedicated status. This was not confirmed against a specific official page in this pass.
  • The official VWP country list (travel.state.gov / cbp.gov / dhs.gov) could not be retrieved: the list did not render in the fetched page and the CBP and DHS pages were not reachable. VWP membership for Australia and for individual EU states, and the Bulgaria/Cyprus/Romania exceptions, rest on non-official sources (s10, s11), so EU and AU are marked low confidence. The DHS press release on Romania's rescission (2 May 2025) was identified but could not be fetched.
  • Canadians: travel.state.gov (s2) confirms Canadians generally need no visa for tourism. The typical six-month admission comes from B-2 regulations (8 CFR 214.2(b), read through a non-official mirror) and practitioner guidance; an official CBP page stating it could not be fetched. Days set to 180 to represent '6 months'.
  • Canadian registration requirement (USCIS interim final rule, effective 11 April 2025, for stays of 30+ days without an I-94) is documented here only through a congressional letter (s9); check current USCIS guidance for how to register and who is exempt.
  • ESTA fee of US$40.62 is from the Federal Register public-inspection copy (s3); the ESTA website itself (esta.cbp.dhs.gov) was not reachable for confirmation. The ESTA validity rule (2 years) comes from 8 CFR 217.5 read through Cornell LII (s4).
